By 1946, the symphony of Karveer Gayan Samaj and Deval Club harmonized into a single identity—Gayan Samaj Deval Club. United for a shared mission, they became a beacon for Indian Classical Music, blending their strengths to create an enduring legacy.

The Royal Chord – Shahu Maharaja’s Patronage
The visionary ruler, Rajarshee Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja, recognized the club’s cultural significance. With his unwavering support, he gifted land and funds for the construction of a permanent home for this burgeoning institution. The royal generosity immortalized his love for classical arts and gave Kolhapur a stage for its golden era of music, dance, and drama.

The Cultural Renaissance of Kolhapur
Kolhapur, aptly named Kalapur, flourished as a cradle of arts under Shahu Maharaja’s reign. The city’s cultural canvas expanded, bringing forth luminaries in music, theatre, and film. Bhaskarbuwa Bakhale
Bhaskar Raghunath Bakhale (17 October 1869 – 8 April 1922) was a Hindustani classical vocalist, a composer, and a teacher. Bhaskar Raghunath Bakhale.


Kishori Amonkar
Kishori Amonkar was an Indian classical vocalist, belonging to the Jaipur Gharana, or a community of musicians sharing a distinctive musical style. She is considered to be one of the foremost classical singers in India. She was a performer of the classical genre khyal and the light classical genres thumri and bhajan.


Govindrao Tembe
He used to accompany Pt. Bhaskarbuwa Bakhale, and would also often perform solo, but later gave up harmonium for most part of his career. He composed music for the drama Manapman in 1910, and also for the first Marathi talkie Ayodhyecha Raja (1932). He also acted in both these productions.


Suresh Talwalkar
Talwalkar was born in 1948 into a Marathi family in Chembur, Mumbai. He belongs to the Keertankar family of Shri Dholebuva. Keertana being a classical form of devotional and musical discourse, a liking for the classical music was inculcated in him right in the childhood.


Pt. Bhimsen Joshi
On 9th and 11th October 1998, Gayan Samaj Deval Club, Kolhapur, hosted the legendary Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. His soulful renditions of classical khayals and bhajans captivated the audience, celebrating the club’s rich legacy and leaving an indelible mark on Indian classical music.
